Eclipse Star: Chapter 50

“Leet Hax”

Recap:  After a heated battle with the Hex-Duo robots, it seemed that the group was about to cash in their last chips, having exhausted every option.  And then Chris showed up.  Arriving after three days of training with his dead father, Chris is ready to aid in the fight as best he can.  But is he going to make much of a difference?

Hex-Duo 6:  (Shakes its head and breaks into the confusion).  Just who are you?

Chris:  Me?  (Smiles).  I’m the Ghost of Christmas Past.  (Snaps his fingers and points at the robot).  And if you keep up with your naughty ways then the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come will wipe you off this sorry planet.

Lindsey:  (She can hardly see through the tears in her eyes).  But…but…you’re dead.

Chris:  It’d seem that way, wouldn’t it?

Danny:  (Smiling from ear to ear).  Heehee, you made it!

Chris:  Yeah.  (Smiling but a bit confused).  Were you expecting me?

Danny:  Heh, maybe a little at the very end there.

Hex-Duo 3:  How did you survive our attacks?  Our teamwork was flawless!  I demand you tell us!

Chris:  Hah, who said I survived ‘em?  How do you know I’m not just an angry spirit sent to correct the wrongs committed against my former self?  (Wiggles his fingers mockingly).  Oooohooo~

Hex-Duo 9:  (Terrified and shaking).  Six…is he telling the truth?!  Is he?!  I don’t wanna get killed by a ghost!

Hex-Duo 6:  He’s not a ghost, and no one is dying here except for those with flesh and blood.

Chris:  (Stretching his arms a bit).  Okay, I think it’s only fair to warn you properly.  You have one last chance.  Leave now or I will destroy you.

-All the Hex-Duo robots squint at Chris, then burst into laughter.

Hex-Duo 1:  Hahaha!  Really?!  Ahaha, or else what?  You really think you can destroy us?!

Chris:  (Coyly smiles).  If I have to, then I will.  (Glances over at his group).  And since it looks like the rest of my friends are a little tired, I might have no choice but to do this by myself.

Hex-Duo 6:  (Not amused.  It crosses its arms).  Ridiculous.  (Looks to its team).  We killed him once; we can do it again.

-A round of “Hooah!” from the Hex-Duo.

Hex-Duo 6:  Four, put him back in the grave.

Hex-Duo 4:  (Evil grin as it starts advancing on Chris, pounding its fist).  With pleasure.

Chris:  (Undeterred.  He’s stretching his legs now).  I wouldn’t recommend it big fella.

Hex-Duo 4:  Yeah, a little runt like you is gonna stop me.

-Lindsey makes a movement towards Chris.

-Jack’s hand comes up and holds her back.

Lindsey:  Jack, he’s gonna-

-Jack looks at her quietly, his face white.

-He slowly shakes his head.

Jack:  Don’t Lindz.  He knows what he’s doing.

Hex-Duo 4:  Come ‘ere spirit.  Prepare for the afterworld!

-Hex-Duo 4 throws a punch at Chris, who instantly dodges.

-Hex-Duo 4 smiles and throws another, also missing, followed by another, and another.

-Chris is merely smiling back.

Hex-Duo 4:  Bit tricksy eh?

-Hex-Duo 4’s face grows angry as it fires a flurry of punches at Chris’ head, missing every time, Chris easily dodging each one.

-The robot grows more frustrated, wildly throwing kicks in with the round of punches.

-Chris effortlessly moves out of the way of every swing, ducking and dodging, jumping and weaving, blocking a few heavier shots.

-Hex-Duo 4 is becoming furious.

Hex-Duo 4:  Come on!  Stop playing around!

-Punches and kicks are being thrown at a dizzying rate, a complete blur to anyone else watching.

-The robot seems to be pushing Chris back with its advances, yet Chris isn’t taking a single hit.

-Finally Chris’ hand shoots up and grabs one of the robot’s fists, stopping it in mid-attack.

-Chris looks up at the robot, and smiles.

Hex-Duo 4:  Little bastard!

-Chris punches the robot once in the chest, kicks upwards into the robot’s head, knocking it’s head backwards, then hops slightly and kicks the robot again, forcing it to stumble back, eyes bulging.

-Everyone watches this with their mouths hanging open, aghast.

Derek:  Unreal…

-Hex-Duo 4 is pissed.  It clenches its teeth and fists, screaming at Chris.

Hex-Duo 4:  A few lucky punches?!  That’s all you get!

-Serious kick from Chris into the robot’s chest.

-Hex-Duo 4 flips head over heels, careening backwards into its group, crashing and coming to a stop, dazed.

-Chris lands and stretches his hands, cracking his fingers.

Chris:  Last chance guys.

Hex-Duo 6:  (Glaring at Chris).  Impressive.  (Shakes its head).  Sadly it isn’t enough to save you.  (Turns to its group).  Hex-Duo, kill him!

-The Hex-Duo give another round of “Hooah!” and all take off after Chris.

Chris:  (Doesn’t enter a fighter stance, a little surprised that they’re jumping the gun so quickly).  Multi-strike again?

-Hex-Duo 3 comes up to Chris and knees him hard in the stomach, forcing Chris to double over.

-Hex-Duo 1 elbows Chris in the face, sending him stumbling backwards as Hex-Duo 9 slams him with both hands in the side of the face.

-Hex-Duo 4 grabs Chris by the throat and slams him in the stomach, holding him in place as Hex-Duo 10 unloads from behind, hitting Chris in the back with a heavy round from both arm-turrets.

-Hex-Duo 1 and 3 both slam into him from either side, followed by Hex-Duo 8 body slamming him, sending him skidding onto the ground, with Hex-Duo 4 stomping him in the stomach, picking him up, and throwing him into the air.

Lindsey:  (Freaked).  Chris!

Jack:  (Still holding onto her as best he can).  Lindsey, there isn’t anything you can do for him!  You’d just get killed along with Chris!

Lindsey:  Someone has to help him!

Kevin:  (Looks up as the robots rally Chris back and forth between them with brutal shots, just like before).  Then may God help him…

Hex-Duo 6:  (Yells up at the others).  Blast him into oblivion!

Hex-Duo robots:  Hooah!

-The Hex-Duo robots all transform their various body parts into blasters and such, taking a second to sync themselves up, then unloaded on Chris, surrounding him and firing upon him in the air.

Kyle:  (Pushing himself to his feet).  Nah way…everything’s just repeating itself!

Danny:  (Shaking his head).  Nope.  (Smiles and nods).  Keep watching; I know something good’ll happen.

-After the first set of blasts, the robots rush in, all punching Chris furiously in a mad huddle.

-They slam him downward with a powerful hit, then charge their second wave of blasts, letting loose with a vicious series of beams, blasts, and bullets.

-Chris is pounded over and over, the area shaken up from the force of the attack, hurling chunks of rubble all over.

-Finally the robots stop, having seemingly succeeded in wiping any evidence of Chris from the planet.

Kyle:  Was that supposed to be something good?

Danny:  Keep watching…

-The Hex-Duo robots land near Hex-Duo 6 as it smirks.

Hex-Duo 6:  Well now, what has become of your savior?  (Looks off at the wreckage where Chris is buried).  Seems his promise was as shallow as your chances of survival.

Derek:  (Shocked.  He falls to his knees).  It can’t be…  Not that simple…can it?

Austin:  (Smiles).  Nah.  (Closes his eyes and shakes his head).  I don’t believe it.  (Points off at Hex-Duo 6).  You’re making a mistake pal.  Best listen to my buddy Chris and leave town.

Hex-Duo 6:  Perhaps if he were not dead then your offer would sound more appealing, yet I don’t see him getting up and doing anything, do you?

Lindsey:  (Crying again).  How could you?!  You’ll pay for everything you’ve done!

-Lindsey starts powering up.

Hex-Duo 6:  Silly girl.  Number One, eliminate her.

Hex-Duo 1:  (Beams).  My pleasure, Six!

-Hex-Duo 1 rushes at Lindsey too quickly for anyone to respond, its hand cocked and ready to hit her in the head.

Hex-Duo 1:  Bye bye princess!

-Hex-Duo 1 throws its punch.

-A slight scream comes from Lindsey’s mouth as she winces and closes her eyes, huddled and expecting to be dead from this hit.

Hex-Duo 1:  !!!!!

-Realizing that she’s not dead, Lindsey looks up, seeing a very fearful Hex-Duo 1.

-Chris stands, holding Hex-Duo 1’s fist, having caught the fist below his waist in a very awkward position inches from Lindsey’s face.

-Chris doesn’t look too happy.

Chris:  (Cold).  Very, very poor choice.

-Chris crushes Hex-Duo 1’s hand.

Hex-Duo 1:  GAAAAHHHH!!!

-Chris lets go and the robot jumps back, clutching its mangled hand, its eyes wide with terror.

Hex-Duo 1:  My hand!  How did you…?  HOW ARE YOU ALIVE?!

Hex-Duo 6:  (Startled by Chris’ stubborn living streak).  But…(Angry face).  Explain yourself!

-Chris’ clothes are a bit torn, yet he doesn’t look like he sustained much damage at all.

-He smiles back at Hex-Duo 6.

Chris:  Well, it’s rather simple; your team already pulled that cheap stunt on me once and it didn’t work, so why would it work the second time?

-Hex-Duo 6 grunts in frustration and turns away.

-Chris looks over at Lindsey.

Chris:  You alright?

Lindsey:  I’m…I’m fine.  Are you?

Chris:  Hah, yeah.  You stay here and out of trouble.  (Turns to Jack).  And you.  (Points).  Well…don’t touch her.

-Chris flies off to the middle of the area again, between his friends and the deadly robots.

Hex-Duo 6:  Hex-Duo robots!  Kill him!  Beat him to death!

Chris:  (Pumps his fist in the air).  Hooah!

-The Hex-Duo robots look over, confused, Chris with his fist still in the air.

Chris:  Did I get it right?  “Hooah?”

Hex-Duo 4:  (Enraged).  Geh-  NO!  You haven’t earned the right to say that!

Chris:  “Hooah?”  Now I’ve gotta earn the right to grunt properly?

Hex-Duo 4:  (If it had blood vessels, one would pop in its forehead right now).  HAAAAAHHHH!!!!!

-All the Hex-Duo robots once more blast off at Chris, battle-ready.

Hex-Duo 6:  (Holds its hand up).  Wait.

-All Hex-Duo stop.

Hex-Duo 6:  Group huddle.  Here, now!

-The Hex-Duo turn around, confused.  Still they obey instantly.

Chris:  (His hands at his hips, head tilted inquisitively).  Now what are they up to…?

-The robots are huddled around Six, a few yards away from Chris and the others, speaking too quietly for them to hear.

-Hex-Duo 4 is shaking from rage.

Hex-Duo 4:  Come on Six, let me kill him.

Hex-Duo 6:  (Stern).  Just wait.  I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention to this fight, but we’re the one’s who’ve been suffering the heavy losses, not them.

Hex-Duo 1:  (Looks over its shoulder at the kids).  But look at ‘em.  Another punch and they’ll fall right over.

Hex-Duo 6:  Stop acting like fools.  When fighting against these children we outmatch them in singular combat, yet when they use their numbers they find ways to confuse you, trick you, and generally cheat death.  Now how does that make you feel?

Hex-Duo 4:  Pissed!

-Hex-Duo 6 looks down and sees the remains of Hex-Duo 5’s arm.

-It bends down and picks the arm up.

Hex-Duo 6:  Look at what they’ve done to Five.  And do you know how they did this to him?

Hex-Duo 9:  They’re better than us…?

Hex-Duo 6:  (Forceful).  No.  (Dangling the robotic arm about).  They did it via teamwork and they pushed themselves to their absolute limits.  (Looks around the group).  How many of you have been holding back?

-Hex-Duo 8 shyly starts to raise its hand as the others look at their feet.

Hex-Duo 6:  How many?!

-All of them raise their hands.

Hex-Duo 6:  Unfortunately for you all you’re going to have to realize something.  Against the primary target the rules are reversed.  Now we’re at a singular disadvantage.  However, we have an advantage in numbers.  And right now our pride isn’t going to do us any good, you understand?

-They ashamedly nod their heads.

Hex-Duo 6:  You’ve been holding back because you don’t want to admit that a human, a boy, can outmatch you.  Well now you’re faced with that possibility, so adapt.

-Hex-Duo 6 holds up Hex-Duo 5’s arm and checks the back of the wrist, pressing a few buttons.

-A panel opens up, showing a glowing cylindrical energy force.

-Hex-Duo 6 pulls it out, discards the arm, and shows it to the group.

Hex-Duo 6:  Your teammate is dead.  Don’t let it be for nothing.

-The Hex-Duo all become serious and yell one last round of “Hooah!”.

Chris:  (Pumps his fist in the air again).  Hooah!

-The Hex-Duo turn around, furious.

Chris:  You nancies done playing “Whose’s Bigger?” or are you ready to fight again?

-Hex-Duo eyes pop from this final insult, forcing them to take off at Chris.

-Chris smiles and gets into a fighter stance.

Chris:  Here we go…

-Hex-Duo 6 is still holding the energy cell.  It raises its forearm as a panel opens up.

-Hex-Duo 6 places the power cell in the opening, clicking it into place, then closes the slot again, looking up as its team bum-rushes Chris.

Hex-Duo 6:  His survival is impossible; it has to be.

-The Hex-Duo robots meet up with Chris, Hex-Duo 4 being the first to strike him, hitting him hard in the head with a massive punch.

-As Chris is blown back, Hex-Duo 1 and 3 grab his arms and wrestle him to the ground, flying as they go, dragging him along.

-Hex-Duo 4 and 8 exchange turns slamming into him from above, alternating after each successful stomp.

-Hex-Duo 10 stands ready at the end of the line, charging an energy blast, twitching its eyebrow to signal the others to move as he fires it at Chris, making a direct hit.

-Chris leaps into the air from this, deflecting the attack away, although doing so with some difficulty.

-In the air, Hex-Duo 8 plows into him, rolling into a ball.

-The huge spherical robot slams Chris back and forth in the air, stopping in place and turning around to slam him over and over.

-Hex-Duo 4 flies in from behind Chris, horns ready to impale him.

-Chris manages to turn around and grab Four by the horns.

-Hex-Duo 3 clenches its fists, extending its spikes, grabbing one to throw at Chris.

-Chris moves slightly out of the way, getting his vest ripped in the process.

-Hex-Duo 4 breaks free from Chris’ hold and thrusts its head forward, puncturing Chris’ vest on either side with Chris turned sideways, unharmed but stuck between the two horns.

-Hex-Duo 1 and 10 hit Chris hard from behind, one hitting him in the head and the other hitting him in the legs, sprawling him over Hex-Duo 4’s head.

-The bull-horned robot then flips Chris aside into the air, where it throws a punch at Chris, getting blocked hurriedly.

-Hex-Duo 3 punches Chris in the gut as Hex-Duo 4 regains its hand from Chris and decks Chris in the face.

-Chris spins out into the air as Hex-Duo 1 and 8 come at him from either side, one from below and one from above

-He blocks both, stopping them, although Hex-Duo 4 uppercuts Chris in the front, forcing Chris to flip around and around.

-Hex-Duo 9 begins firing blasts from its spout up at Chris as he tries to deflect them, knocking the first few away but getting overtaken by the next few.

-As he’s getting hit, Hex-Duo 4 slams him with a double-handed smash and sends him tumbling to the ground.

-Chris’ arms and legs flail desperately, yet he rights himself before he hits, landing with a THUD on his hands and knees, cracking the ground.

-All the Hex-Duo robots land around Chris, grinning maliciously, proud of their accomplishments.

Hex-Duo 9:  See, you’re not so tough.  Hah, and to think I was scared of you!  Hahaha!

-Chris stands up, cocking his head to one side to spit blood.

Chris:  Pretty easy to demonstrate bravery when it’s six against one, huh?

Hex-Duo 4:  Yeah, and it’s unfortunate that we’re not holding back anymore.

Chris:  (Rubs his shoulder and cracks his neck).  So, we’ve been holding back have we?

Hex-Duo 9:  Not anymore!  (Laughing to itself, triumphantly).  You’re about to witness the age of the Hex-Duo!  Think you’ve got anything left to fight with?!

Austin:  (He and the group are watching intently).  Hey Jack, how’s it looking?

Jack:  (Checking his watch).  Not too good at the moment.  Chris is getting way outclassed, though I still can’t get a decent reading on him.  He hasn’t stayed at a consistent level.  He keeps jumping around.

Lindsey:  He’s gonna need our help.

Kevin:  He might.  (Closes his eyes and turns his head).  I just don’t know how much good we’d be able to do.

Danny:  (Still smiling).  He knows what he’s doing.

-Chris is still surrounded by robots.  He looks around the group, summing them up.  Finally he grabs the remains of his vest, unzipping it and throwing it off in the same motion.

Chris:  The age of the Hex-Duo?  That’s just absurd.

Hex-Duo 9:  (Laughing and rubbing its nose, one hand at its hip).  Haha!  And what are you gonna do about it?!  You can’t beat us!  We’re too powerful!

-Chris clenches his fists and stoops, ready for something.

Chris:  If you wanna play it that way then…

-Chris’ body starts quivering.  The ground begins humming, dust vibrating around, the chunks of concrete that have been kicked up are skittering around.

Chris:  Haaaa……

Hex-Duo 9:  (It’s stopped laughing, now just staring nervously in mid-gloat).  What…what are you doing?

Chris:  (His eyes are straining as he’s powering up).  HAAAA…..

-The ground begins to shake more violently.  Sparks begins traveling around Chris as he’s yelling louder and louder, building to something.

Chris:  HAAAAA…!

Hex-Duo 9:  (Its expression has changed to terrified).  No wait!  Stop it!

Chris:  HHHAAAAAA…!!!

-The buildings around Chris are shaking too as the ground splits in a few places, sending small fissures dancing around him.  His voice is getting louder and louder as the shaking increases.

-Jack’s watch starts going crazy.

Hex-Duo 9:  (It’s freaking out more and more as Chris’ screams get louder, his power hitting max).  AH!!

-Everything’s shaking viciously with everyone hardly able to stay on their feet.

Chris:  HAAAAAA!!!!!

Hex-Duo 9:  AH!! AHH!!  AAAHH!!!

-As Chris yells, he’s looking directly at Hex-Duo 9, who’s screaming in terror right back.

-In an instant, Chris fires himself forward, pounding Hex-Duo 9 with a painful hit, shooting the robot down the block.

-Chris follows right after in a blur, punching the robot down into the street, bouncing each time it hits and getting punched right back.

-Chris slams his feet onto the robot’s head, skidding it to a stop.

-The rest of the Hex-Duo seem hesitant to do anything, though are still in battle mode.

Hex-Duo 3:  Attack!

-A flash and Chris is in front of the other robots, hitting Hex-Duo 1 and 3 in the heads seemingly simultaneously, causing them to smash into each other.

-In another blink Chris is in between the two robots, kneeing one in the head, then kicking backwards into the other’s head, then repeating this a few times, all in the same fluid motion.

-As the robots stumble around from this, Chris backflips onto Hex-Duo 8’s head, grabbing it and break dance-spinning, twisting the head around and around as wires snap and spark.

-Chris leaps into the air above the robot, pulling the head off.

-He crushes it in his hands, then blasts into the robot’s inner body with a punch, exploding it.

-The rest of the robots are now shaking in place, unsure what to do next.

-Chris doesn’t give them the chance to figure a strategy and instead rushes at them.

-Hex-Duo 1 panics and dives forward, hoping to cut Chris in half.

-Chris puts his forearm up as the head-blade smashes upon it, shards spraying all around.

-Chris boots Hex-Duo 1 into the air, turning around and instantly grabbing Hex-Duo 3 in its confusion, swinging it around and hurling it up into Hex-Duo 1, where it smashes into the other robot.

-Seconds after this contact, Chris has punched them apart from between the two, firing beams from either hand, obliterating the two robots in a flash of light, yelling as he does so.

-Hex-Duo 10 freaks out and transforms its arms into their gun turret forms, as well as having rocket launchers break off from its shoulders and cannons extend from its chest.

-It begins firing upwards into the air at Chris, although it hits nothing as Chris is already in its face, hitting it in the head with a spinning double-boot kick, almost like a corkscrew.

-The robot is rawked backwards, still firing madly as Chris appears behind it, slamming it once, then appearing in front and slamming it again, and again, and again, from all angles in rapid succession so fast that the hits are unable to be seen properly until Hex-Duo 10 is little more than a chunk of metal all balled up.

-Chris grabs the large ball that used to be a robot and throws it into the air, blasting it to dust.

-Hex-Duo 4 comes up behind Chris, fist pulled back.

Hex-Duo 4:  YOU BASTARD!!!  I’LL KILL YOU!!!

-Chris turns around, visually intangible to the naked eye.

-As Hex-Duo 4 punches with every ounce of force it has, Chris grabs the fist in a perfectly solid block and pushes back.

-The robot carries on with its follow-through.

-Its arm is shoved back in the socket as it goes, getting torn off in the process.

-As it lands it swivels around, arm dangling from wires.

-Chris grabs a hold of the arm and yanks it completely off as Hex-Duo 4’s eyes bulge, realizing it hasn’t any time left on Earth.

-Chris whips the arm around, breaking the robot’s face open with it, pieces of circuits flying out.

-Chris creates a fist-sized blast and jams it into the open part of the face, disappearing from view as Hex-Duo 4 explodes.

-Chris appears again a few yards from Hex-Duo 9, walking with no remorse on his face.

-Hex-Duo 9 is heaped in the wreckage of the street, mangled and dented with sparks skipping off of it every so often.

-Its face is shaking, eyes popping, petrified.

Hex-Duo 9:  Please!  I beg of you!  Spare me!  Please!  OH GOD, DON’T KILL ME!!!!

-Chris is instantly upon the robot, a blast prepared in his hands, yelling as he fires it point-blank into the robot’s face, pushing it away from his body as the blast stays close to Chris, enveloping both of them, finally exploding violently and brightly.

-Chris is once more gone when the dust clears.

-Hex-Duo 6 is stunned and unable to move, mouth hanging open from this wild turn of events.

Hex-Duo 6:  How can this be…?

Derek:  (His eye’s twitching, mouth also hanging open.  He’s thinking to himself).  Impossible…  How could he have improved so dramatically so quickly?!  It took four of us to destroy a single robot and he manages to destroy six in under a minute?!  We pushed ourselves to our breaking point and hardly made a dent in these robots and he outclasses us within moments of being here?!  How is this possible?!

Austin:  (His mouth is hanging open, but a smiling is twitching across his face).  Hey, J-J-Jack?  What’s the watch reading now?

-Jack is shaking as he looks down at his watch.  He blinks a few times at the reading, seeing that the watch says “Chris>9K”.

-Jack looks up, deadpan, shaking his head.

Jack:  No.  No I’m not saying it.

-Chris stumbles behind a building, having difficulty walking and seeing, falling sideways into the side of a building.  He’s clutching his chest, pounding the back of his head against the building.

-He uses one hand to steady himself, coughing, finally heaving a bit of blood, wiping more as it drips from his nose.

-Chris looks over and sees Kyle standing a few feet away, confused.

Chris:  Huh?  Kyle?  What are you doing here?

-Kyle holds Leena, who still happens to be unconscious.

Kyle:  I…I figured I’d get Leena out of the way in case things got heated.  (Unsure what words to use).  You…coughing blood is usually a bad sign bro…

-Chris wipes his mouth and looks sternly at Kyle, steadying himself as best he can.

Chris:  Keep quiet.  Don’t let him know.

-Chris disappears with a “vwing”.

Kyle:  He who…?

-Chris reappears in the middle of the battlefield, nearby Hex-Duo 6.

Chris:  Your team’s gone.

-Hex-Duo 6 walks around, picking up whatever pieces it can find of its fallen comrades.

Hex-Duo 6:  Yes…it would seem that way, wouldn’t it?

-Every so often, Hex-Duo 6 turns away from Chris, removing an energy cell from pieces it finds, inserting them into its arm.

Hex-Duo 6:  I suppose you feel you’re pretty clever, don’t you?

Chris:  (Looking impatient).  I don’t have time for this.

-Hex-Duo 6 is still picking up pieces, finally discarding the last available piece and turning to Chris.

Hex-Duo 6:  Neither have I.

-Hex-Duo 6 instantly powers up and glows, forming a crater in the ground as it’s forced to hover due to the sudden lack of solid ground beneath it.

Hex-Duo 6:  You may have proven yourself able to defeat numerous poor fighters, but what do you do when facing a true warrior?

-Its body is shimmery and glowing.

Hex-Duo 6:  Now die!
