Eclipse Star: Chapter 51

“Chris vs. Hex-Duo 6”

Recap:  Moments after appearing on the battlefield, Chris made quick work of the Hex-Duo robots, leaving only Hex-Duo 6 remaining.  Chris seems to have the upper hand, but Kyle has witnessed that something’s not right with Chris.  In the meantime, Hex-Duo 6 has been integrating its fallen brothers’ power cells into its own, pushing itself to a new level of strength.  Now, Chris and Hex-Duo 6 have squared off and it seems that they’re ready to battle until only one remains.  It all concludes today, on Eclipse Star!

Derek:  (Still stunned).  How…how can he be…?

Scott:  (Stunned but impressed).  I don’t know man, but whatever Chris’ been doing, I’d sure as hell like to give it a try.

Derek:  (Angry).  No more than three days ago he was in a hospital bed.  He couldn’t fly, he couldn’t generate large beams, he couldn’t do anything.  And now he’s capable of flight and fatal blasts?  How is this possible?

Scott:  If it means we don’t have robots to worry about anymore, then I’m all for this new Chris.

-Hex-Duo 6 glows and pulsates with power, hovering in place.

Hex-Duo 6:  Are you ready to die?

Chris:  (Fighter stance).  Sure, I’ve already died once; how much could it hurt to die a second time?

Hex-Duo 6:  I’ll show you.

-Hex-Duo 6 throws a punch at Chris.

-Chris throws an elbow up to block the punch, connecting and throwing Hex-Duo 6’s fist back.

-Chris follows up with a counter-punch to Hex-Duo 6’s torso, but his hand is swatted away.

-The robot throws a palm strike at Chris’ face, although Chris moves his head, dodging the punch and grabbing Hex-Duo 6’s arm in the same motion, holding the robotic hand near his ear, struggling to keep the robot from breaking free.

-Hex-Duo 6’s free hand shoots in front of Chris’ face, breaking away and revealing a cannon arm which starts to draw in energy before the blast.

-Chris grits his teeth and throws the arm back, leaping backwards as hard as he can, trying not to get caught in the glancing blow of the blast.

-Hex-Duo 6 fires and tears up the ground, continuing the blast, swinging its arm up and following Chris into the air.

-Chris pulls his arms back and swings them in a double-fist, connecting with the beam, pushing against it but sending it off course after the follow-through.

-He winces and holds his hands up, shaking them as they spasm from the severity of the beam.

-Hex-Duo 6 connects with a highly damaging elbow into Chris’ sternum, winding Chris instantly.

-Hex-Duo 6 reaches up and clutches a handful of Chris’ hair, pulling the head down into its elbow, letting go as Chris’ head flies back, blood spraying from his nose.

-Chris doubles back and fires a heavy blast at Hex-Duo 6 who catches the blast and holds onto it, being forced to the ground before pushing it down into the street, blowing it up.

-The robot vwings into the air, hovering near Chris as chunks of pavement rain down around the two.

Hex-Duo 6:  How is your nose?

Chris:  (Holding his face with one hand, an eye closed).  Never better.  (Clenches both fists into a fighter stance again).  In fact, I was attempting to counter your elbow with my face, therefore, I was victorious.  (Smiles).

Hex-Duo 6:  (Grunts).  Hrumph.  My robot brothers may have gone lightly on you, but you’ll find that I am not so merciful.

Chris:  Gone lightly on me?  Hah!  Those chumps did everything they could against me and all they’ve got to show for it is a voided warranty.

Hex-Duo 6:  (Angry face).  They fought bravely, albeit foolishly.

Chris:  Funny, I never considered sextuple-teaming someone to be considered “fighting bravely”, but then again I’ve been disconnected from the real world for a while, so maybe I missed the part where that’d be considered brave.

-The rocks stop falling around them as Hex-Duo 6 closes its eyes and folds its arms again.

Hex-Duo 6:  Surely you must have known your friends were in danger these past few days?  Why did you choose to hide until now?  Until they had exhausted every last option?

Chris:  (Shrugs).  Lucky timing I guess.

Hex-Duo 6:  Perhaps, although I’d have suggested staying hidden.

-Round 2 begins with the fighters vwinging out of sight, connecting with hits every so often with only the noise as proof that the hit was made, moving too fast for anyone else to truly see the precise actions.

-Chris comes spinning through the air, landing a solid kick into the side of Hex-Duo 6.

-The two freeze for a second as the robot takes this hit, cringing.

-It doesn’t last long though, as the robot grabs Chris’ leg, squeezing with powerful metallic hands.

-Chris yelps at this and socks Hex-Duo 6 in the face, although this does very little as Hex-Duo 6 shakes off the attack.

-Chris continues to pepper Six’s face with punches, finally slamming the robotic menace over the top of the head with both hands.

-Hex-Duo 6’s eyes close as Chris’ leg is freed.

-Chris makes some distance in the air before pulling back and firing another heavy blast.

-Hex-Duo 6 is gone by the time the blast dissipates.

Chris:  Shoot, now where’d he go?

Hex-Duo 6:  (Standing on the ledge of a nearby building, arms crossed).  Your blast failed to destroy me.

Chris:  (Still smiling).  Well good, I was worried you wouldn’t have held together, but it seems I’ll get a little more playtime with my favorite new toy.  (Chuckles and rubs his head).  You still suck compared to a Game Boy, but at least I don’t have to worry about buying batteries.

Hex-Duo 6:  (Gestures to Chris, bidding him forward).  Well then, shall we continue?

-Chris takes a deep breath, finally breaking his smile, an eye twitching slightly, unnoticeable to anyone.

Chris:  Sure, why not?

The battle continues with a “PTOOM” as the two pound back and forth on each other in the air.

Lindsey:  (She’s watching intently, trying to see what’s happening).  Jack I can’t make sense of it.  It’s all a blur to me.

Jack:  (In an uncomfortable sitting position).  I can’t make much more sense of it Lindz.  They’re moving too fast to see.

Hex-Duo 7:  (Speaking up at last, hidden behind Austin and Kevin).  I can still follow it.

Everyone turns their heads to the voice as Hex-Duo 7 pushes its way to the front of the crowd.

Hex-Duo 7:  Chris is fighting with Hex-Duo 6.

Derek:  (Practically snarling at the robot).  Anyone could have figured that much out.

Hex-Duo 7:  (Shoots Derek a stern look).  I don’t think you realize the enormity of that statement.  Hex-Duo 6 doesn’t fight with anyone; he kills them.

Kevin:  (Worried).  Then what does this mean for Chris?

Hex-Duo 7:  The simple fact that he’s actually fighting Hex-Duo 6 doesn’t bode well for him, but he is fighting, not dying.

Austin:  So Chris stands a chance of winning?

Hex-Duo 7:  Anything is possible, but Hex-Duo 6 is a robot.  He doesn’t tire and isn’t affected by any attacks.  A particularly critical combo does little good in the long-run to Chris, yet the same combo may be lethal in the opposite hands.

-Hex-Duo 7 looks up at the fight, its eyes large.

Hex-Duo 7:  Every strike that Chris makes to Six is doing little more than prolonging the fight.

Flash of Chris hitting Hex-Duo 6 with a particularly devastating-looking haymaker.

Hex-Duo 7:  But every strike that Six hits with Chris…

-Flash of Hex-Duo 6 connecting with a serious uppercut.

Hex-Duo 7:  Every strike that Six makes takes its toll.

Lindsey:  (Looking at Hex-Duo 7 with an agonized look on her face).  What can we do to help him then?

Hex-Duo 7:  (Looking down at Lindsey, sad).  We let him fight himself out.  And then…(Looking back up).  Then we hope for the best…

-Hex-Duo 7’s eyes are reflecting the fight, each fighter furiously fighting back and forth.

-The scene transitions back to the actual fight, fading back in as the two fighters punch back and forth futilely, hitting nothing.

Hex-Duo 6:  Are you growing tired yet?

Chris:  Not in the least.

Hex-Duo 6:  I sense that you’re lying.

-Six smiles and clips Chris above the eye with a swift jab, forming a cut.

Hex-Duo 6:  The body blows you’ve taken seem to be slowing you down.

Chris:  (Smirks).  I’m still more than quick enough to keep up with you.

-Chris delivers a swift jab right back, hitting nothing as Hex-Duo 6 disappears, leaving Chris a little stunned, mouth hanging slightly open.

-Hex-Duo 6 appears behind Chris, arms crossed.

Hex-Duo 6:  Sure, I can see that you’re keeping up…for now that is.

Chris turns around, teeth clenched, throwing punches madly as Hex-Duo 6 blocks them with its feet, laughing as it goes.

Hex-Duo 6:  And now I hardly have to use my hands!  Ahahaha!

Chris:  Oh yeah?

-Chris flips back, charging an energy ball in his hand.

-He fires it quickly at the robot.

-Hex-Duo 6 keeps its arms crossed and shoots an eye-laser at the blast, detonating it.

-The blast explodes with a swift CRACK and a blinding amount of light permeates the area, forcing everyone to shield their eyes.

-Hex-Duo 6’s eyes remain open, although its vision sensor becomes overloaded momentarily.

-As it reboots, Hex-Duo 6 looks around to find that Chris isn’t anywhere to be seen.

Hex-Duo 6:  Aha, how very clever.

-Six looks around some more, unphased by the attack.  It grimaces, more annoyed at the action.

Hex-Duo 6:  And now I suspect that you’re planning to sneak up on me?  Perhaps charging another attack, a real attack, while my back is turned?

Derek:  (Yelling up at Hex-Duo 6).  Hey Mega Man!  You lose something?!

Hex-Duo 6:  (Unamused by Derek’s cheeky behavior).  Only for the moment, although I plan on it turning back up where I least expect it.

-Derek shakes his fist, walking forward, away from the group.

Derek:  Well in the meantime, you think you can face me(Pumping his fist).

Hex-Duo 6:  (Almost revolted by the thought of having to face someone so clearly undeserving).  You?  You seem to have yourself confused with a competent fighter.

Derek:  Oh yeah?!  Then why don’t you come down here and let me show you otherwise?!

Hex-Duo 6:  Hmh, if I must.

-Six slowly drops its guard and begins descending upon Derek.

-Chris stands behind a building, panting heavily and trying to catch his breath, although still watching the fight intently.

Chris:  Hah, I’ll thank you for the diversion later Derek.

-He straightens up again, ready to fight.

Chris:  I think it’s time to try a little something my dad taught me.

Looks down at his feet, which begins to shimmer.

Chris:  One of the best family techniques…let’s make some use of it…

Derek:  (In a fighter stance, although perspiring, his pseudo-confidence starting to wane).  Why’re you taking so long?  Was your circuit board damaged that badly from fighting Chris?

-Six finally lands, stopping for a second before zooming forward.

Hex-Duo 6:  I might as well kill you now.  It will only save me the hassle of doing it later.

-Six pulls back for a killing blow.

-Derek gulps, although stands his ground.

-Everyone else cringes and turns away, not wanting to see the remains of Derek’s existence splattered onto their faces.

-Chris takes off at a serious run from around the building behind the group and Derek, his feet glowing brightly.

Chris:  Let’s see if I can do this right, dad!

-Chris sprints past Derek as Hex-Duo 6 is about to make contact, both arms pulled back to attack rather than giving himself the option of defending.

Hex-Duo 6:  (Chris seemingly comes out of nowhere).  WHAT?!

Chris leaps into the air with a flying side-kick, throwing one of his shimmering feet forward, inches from connecting with Hex-Duo 6’s face.

-For a second everything stops, with Chris in mid-air with a kick, Hex-Duo 6 stopped in his tracks, and Derek hardly able to see the action taking place in front of his face.

-In a sudden explosive moment, Chris’ foot shines and sparks with a colossal BOOM as Hex-Duo 6 is hurled backwards through the air, flying out of control down the street.

-Chris lands on the same foot, which is no longer shimmering, and kicks with the other, still-shining foot.

-A second thunderous BOOM is issued forth as an energy attack rockets out from Chris’ foot, skimming over the pavement on a course with Hex-Duo 6, sending dust swirling around as it travels.

-It makes contact with its target a few blocks down the street, exploding with a titanic force, creating a spherical shape in the buildings nearby where it went off, doing so with only the sound waves generated from the powerful kick.

-Chris sets his feet down and takes a quick breath.

Chris:  Alright Derek, you’ve done your part, now stay hidden.

-Chris takes off after the robot.

Lindsey:  (Looking up after shielding her face).  What was that?

Derek:  (Shaking, both from fear and with rage, a look of terror on his face).  He can generate energy blasts…with his feet…?

Scott:  (Whistles in amazement).  Shit son, that’s some serious power there.

-Chris zips after Hex-Duo 6, colliding with it, punching and grappling as the two spin into the ground, cursing and tearing up the pavement until the two are spun into the air where they let go and float a few yards away from each other, getting their bearings back.

-Chris is panting fairly good, rasping a bit.

-Hex-Duo 6 is twitching ever-so-slightly, slowly feeling its face, realizing that part of it is dented inward.

Chris:  How’s your face doing there tin-grin?

Hex-Duo 6:  (Enraged).  Rrrr…you’ll pay for what you’ve done…

-Six clenching its fist and swings it with anger, attacking the air for getting too near.

Hex-Duo 6:  You hear me?!!!  You are finished!!!

Chris:  (Smiles and laughs).  Heh, am I now?  Funny, I think I’m just getting started.

-Six gleams and enters a proper fighting stance once more.

Hex-Duo 6:  I shall make your death as gruesome and painful as I can manage.

-Six is instantly upon Chris, unrelenting in its barrage of punches and kicks, breaking through Chris’ hasty defense, finally hitting him hard to the Earth.

-Hex-Duo 6 appears above him before its hits to kick him again, sending Chris into the air once more.

-Six disappears and reappears to hit Chris again and again and again, pushing him along through the sky with increasingly powerful hits, until Hex-Duo 6 throws one last powerhouse punch.

-Chris connects with his own powerhouse punch, the two fists colliding and generating a sonic boom and a flash in the air.

-As the flash dies down, the two are back to a furious exchange of blows, punching back and forth in the air.

-Kyle looks on, still holding Leena, safely hidden in an alley way.

Kyle:  I can hardly believe what I’m seeing here…

-Leena finally comes to, rubbing her head.

Leena:  Ooo…where have I been…?

Kyle:  (Elated to see her okay).  Leena!  You’re alright!

Leena:  (Confused).  Huh?  Kyle?  Unh, my head’s still spinning.  What happened?  Are we still…?

Another sonic boom interrupts her though as Chris and Hex-Duo 6 continue their fight high above her head.

Leena:  Geez!  What was that?!

-She looks up at Kyle.

Leena:  And put me down!

Kyle:  Oh right, sorry.

-Kyle sets her down.

Kyle:  Chris is fighting with the lead Hex-Duo right now.

Leena:  (Whips around in shock).  Who did you just say?

Kyle:  Chris.  (Smiles).  I guess he’s not dead after all.

Leena:  Where is everyone else?  Are they…?

Kyle:  No they’re all fine.  You got knocked unconscious by the big robot, so I grabbed you and ran back here when the real fighting started so that you wouldn’t get…you know…caught in the cross-fire.

Leena:  (Quiet and longing in her speech).  Kyle…

Kyle leans in close, smiling slightly.

Leena:  You idiot!

-She smacks him.

Leena:  You should have been helping them!

Kyle:  (Covering his head from the unwarranted smack).  Ouch!  That’s not fair!  I was looking out for your best interests!  Such as living!  I’ve been taking notes and you seem to hold “continued survival” pretty high up on your priority list!

Leena:  Yeah, but you should have been fighting instead of coddling me like a baby!

Kyle:  You needed help!

Leena:  Not from you!

Another KATHOOM breaks the argument.

Leena:  Come on; let’s get back with the others!

Kyle nods and they rush out from the alley way to rejoin the others.

Hex-Duo 6:  (No longer enjoying the game, instead livid at Chris’ skill).  Why do you insist on living?

-Six throws a punch at Chris.

-Chris catches the punch.

Chris:  Because it typically seems like the only thing I’m really good at.

-Chris elbows the robot with a “BARACK!” followed by pulling back and charging up a follow-up punch.

Chris:  Ohhhhh…

Lets loose with a “BAMA!” sending the robot through a building, exploding out the other side

-It regains control and crashes back through on its way to kill Chris.

Hex-Duo 6:  You persistent fool!

-Hex-Duo 6 comes inches from Chris before throwing an arm forward, breaking ‘way to become the arm-cannon, unleashing full-force.

-Chris hardly has time to throw his arms across his face to shield himself, getting thrown into the air from the hit.

-Hex-Duo 6 flies after him, intent on continuing the action.

-As Chris is spinning upward in the air, Hex-Duo 6 comes in close to hit him again, but instead Chris hits the robot with an unexpected axe-kick.

-Six’s eye bulge from the thump to its head before it is sent to the ground, vwinging before hitting.

-Chris lands and vwings after it, the two meeting with punches in the air once more.

-Chris catches the robot’s foot, reefing on it, twisting the foot and spinning Hex-Duo 6 around in the air at a blurring speed.

-Chris then comes around with a roundhouse kick to his metal opponent.

-Hex-Duo 6 lands and points its arms upwards.

Chris:  All you’ve got is another energy blast?!  Try something new for a change!

-Chris gets ready to catch the blast.

Hex-Duo 6:  (Smiles as its hands glow).  Oh ho, you’ll enjoy this then…

-Six fires the beam at Chris.

-Chris holds his hands out to stop the beam, although it goes right through them, hitting Chris full force, ripping right through.

-Chris lets out a scream as he’s starting to get torn apart, his clothing shredding.

Hex-Duo 6:  Hahahaha!  No quip?  No witty remark?!  HAHAHAHA!!!

Lindsey:  (She’s quivering, about ready to jump into the fight at any second).  Seven, what’s he doing?!

Hex-Duo 7:  (Wincing at the sight).  That’s Six’s signature attack.  He’s the only Hex-Duo model to be equipped with it.

Jack:  (Suddenly realizes what Hex-Duo 6 is doing).  That’s it!  That’s the attack he used on me!

Hex-Duo 7:  It’s his Neutrino Beam.  It cannot be blocked.

Danny:  Neut…neutrino?

Willy:  It’s science jargon.

Danny:  Ah.

Hex-Duo 7:  Yes.  Typically a neutrino is a sub-atomic particle so small and weak that it can pass through any object without notice.  Six was given the ability to manipulate said particles, increasing their strength to better suit his needs.

Willy:  Definitely science jargon.

Austin:  (Panicked).  So then do something!  If you know how it works do something to stop it!

Hex-Duo 7:  I can’t…I wish I could but I can’t!

-Lindsey grabs Hex-Duo 7 and shakes it.

Lindsey:  You have to!  You’re our only connection to these robots!  Help him!

Hex-Duo 7:  (Angry yet crushed).  I can’t!  (Closes its eyes and turns its head away from her).  I’m just not strong enough to help…no one can beat Six…

Hex-Duo 6:  (Enjoying Chris’ torture just a bit too much).  Have you had enough yet?!  Do I need to push the intensity higher you think?!

-Six increases the strength of the beam.  It instantly becomes brighter as Chris screams louder than ever, held in place but unable to do anything against the vicious attack.

Lindsey:  (Freaking out at Hex-Duo 7).  DO SOMETHING!!!

Hex-Duo 7:  (Shaking with frustration).  I CAN’T!

Derek:  (Pushes his sleeves up).  Fine then, I’m stepping in.  I’d stand about as much chance as Chris does at this point.

-Clinton steps in front of Derek, grabbing his arms and holding him back.

Clinton:  Derek…don’t you get it?  The only person here with any chance is Chris.

Derek:  I’m just as strong as he is!

Clinton:  It’s not about the strength.  The robots know all our fighting moves, they know what we can do, they can predict anything we throw at them.  Chris is the only one who’s completely changed his fighting style since the robots last saw him.  He’s the only one that they don’t have an instant advantage on.

Hex-Duo 7:  He’s right Derek!  You’d just get killed!

Lindsey:  Well so’s Chris!

-She turns around to look up at Chris.

Lindsey:  Chris!  For God’s sake please don’t die!  (Weeping).

-Chris looks down and catches sight of Lindsey distraught, unwilling to see him die.

Chris:  Lindsey…?  She’s crying…?  (Furious).  No more of this.

-Chris flexes his muscles, powering up instantly with a battle-cry, disintegrating the beam around him as is showers down as sparkling particles.

-He looks down at the robot.

Hex-Duo 6:  (Completely baffled).  But…how did you do that?!

Chris:  (Pissed).  You could never understand me, robot.

-Chris vwings in front of the robot, ready for a final confrontation.

-Hex-Duo 6 is just as mad and terrifying as ever, unaffected by Chris’ resilience.

Hex-Duo 6:  I know you better than you think!

-They each throw a punch, connecting with the other’s face.

-As the two recoil from the strike, they clench their fists and prepare to strike back twice as hard once the opportunity presents itself.

-Chris recovers first, hitting Hex-Duo 6 in the side of the head with a palm strike.

-Hex-Duo 6 comes back with a crescent kick to Chris’ shin, toppling him forward, grabbing Chris’ head and kneeing him hard in the face.

-Chris flips back, landing and sweeping Six’s feet with a kick.

-As the robot jumps up to avoid Chris’ attack, Chris comes around with a follow-up kick, raising into the air and hitting the robot.

-Six is knocked back, but retaliates quickly with a headbutt.

-Chris stumbles backwards from the hit as Hex-Duo 6 throws a hasty punch.

-Chris catches the punch and throws one of his own, also getting the punch caught.

-As the two struggle against each other, they lock up in a clench, each pushing back against the other, trying to make some ground, sparks skipping off both as their energy increases.

Hex-Duo 6:  (A cocky smile crosses its face as it seems in control of the situation).  Hah, you’re growing tired, weak.  How much longer can you keep this up?  A few minutes?  Thirty seconds?

Chris:  (Struggling to stay a contender).  I could go all day if I had to.

-Hex-Duo 6 clenches its fists, twisting them forward, bending Chris’ hands backwards.

Hex-Duo 6:  I wouldn’t be so certain about that.

-Chris cringes as he’s being forces to his knees.

Chris:  No…I’m stronger than you…

Hex-Duo 6:  I doubt that.

Chris is still being forced back, slightly.

Chris:  No…I’m fighting for more than you can imagine…more than you can comprehend…

-Chris starts to push back, getting to his feet.

-The two are dead even again.

-Hex-Duo 6 is now freaking out, teeth clenched, every ounce of strength attempting to beat the child in front of it and failing.

Hex-Duo 6:  But…how can you be so…so powerful?!

-The two are still shaking from the clench.

-Chris smiles.

Chris:  I’m not strong because I want to be.  I’m strong because I have to.

In an instant Chris leaps forward while still holding Hex-Duo 6’s hands, flipping over the robot’s head and standing back to back with it, bending the robot’s arms backwards.

-With another massive flex of his body he brings his arms across his chest, tearing Hex-Duo 6’s arms completely off, breaking them off backwards.

Hex-Duo 6:  GRAAAAAAHHHH!!!!

-Hex-Duo 6 screams in terror as Chris drops the now useless arms to the ground.

-Chris turns around slowly to see the robot horrorstruck, a complete mess as it falls flat on its face, quickly getting up and scurrying away from Chris as fast as its feet will allow.

-Dread has filled the robot’s eyes as it keeps stumbling over itself in a panic to escape.

Hex-Duo 6:  It isn’t possible!  I am Hex-Duo 6!  I am unbeatable!

-Chris slowly and coldly walks after Hex-Duo 6.

Chris:  Not anymore you’re not.  You all had the chance to leave us alone.  I gave you fair warning and you refused it.  You harmed those that I cherish most.  Still I gave you the option of forgiveness and yet you wouldn’t have it.  You’ve brought this upon yourself.

-Hex-Duo 6 falls down again, turning around to face Chris in a seated position, pushing with its feet against the ground to scoot further.

Hex-Duo 6:  Please, I beg for your forgiveness once more!

Chris:  You don’t deserve it.

Hex-Duo 6:  I was merely a vessel in which to help you see your true potential!  I meant only to help!

Chris:  No more lies.

Hex-Duo 6:  You owe everything to me!  If I hadn’t held back my fellow teammates they would have killed your friends!

Chris:  I thank you for your efforts then, but your services are no longer needed.

Hex-Duo 6:  I am not going to be discarded so easily!

-Hex-Duo 6 fires a set of eye lasers at Chris, digging a trench along the ground but completely missing Chris.

-A cold smile appears on Chris’ face as he walks up to Hex-Duo 6.

Chris:  For a robot who means well you’ve got a funny way of demonstrating it.

Hex-Duo 6 leaps to its feet, running away at full speed.

-Chris appears in front of the robot, kicking it into the air, leaping up after it.

-As Hex-Duo 6 spins out of control, Chris puts his hands together, charging a blast in them.

Hex-Duo 6:  (Almost incoherent).  IT CANNOT END LIKE THIS!!!

A blue energy ball appears in Chris’ hands.

Chris:  And yet it does.

-Chris pulls his hands apart, pulling his arms behind him, an energy ball in each hand with a stream of energy connecting the two.

-Chris throws the two balls at Hex-Duo 6, spinning at the robot like a bola, the energy stream hitting it and causing the balls to wrap around and around.

-The robot gives one last terrified look as the two energy balls collide against one another, detonating.

GIGADOOM!!!

-Hex-Duo 6 screams as the leader of the Hex-Duo robots is obliterated, the explosion in the sky forcing everyone off their feet from the impact force caused by its intensity.

-Chris lands again after finishing this blast, hitting the ground harder than expected, drained.

Chris:  It’s done.

-He falls over onto his hands and knees, shuddering and straining hard.

-He finally gets up and runs over to some bushes, vomiting.

-Once done he turns around and smiles, looking at his friends.  He lets out a heavy sigh, relieved.

Chris:  Hey guys, we won.

-Chris takes a step towards everyone; they all take a step backwards, terrified.

Chris:  What…?

Leena:  What…what are you…?

-Surprised, Chris takes yet another step forward.

-Everyone moves backwards again, too scared to say anything to him.

Chris:  But I…  Guys, it’s me, Chris.

Willy:  (Scared).  The Chris I knew wasn’t capable of anything we’ve just witnessed!  You’re not human!

Chris:  Willy I assure you I’m completely human.

-Chris looks around the group.  As he starts making eye contact with everyone they recoil and stumble backwards, trying to move away.

Chris:  Danny?

-Danny turns away, frightened.

Chris:  Austin?

-Austin shudders and gulps.

Chris:  Lindz…?

Chris is nearly heartbroken as Lindsey grabs Jack’s hand, hiding behind him.

Chris:  I don’t…I don’t understand…

-Kyle seems to be the only one not terrified by Chris.  He looks around, his hands on his hips.

Kyle:  What is with you all?  The man just saved us all from certain death.

-Kyle walks up to Chris.

Kyle:  So you’re back, huh?

Chris:  Ye-yeah…

-Kyle breaks down and hugs Chris, hysterical.

Kyle:  Oh thank you thank you thank you!  It’s good to have you back!  Especially when you save us from death!

Chris:  (Finally musters a weak smile).  Thanks Kyle.

-Chris closes his eyes and shakes his head, nearly passing out.

Kyle:  Hey, what’s up with you?

Chris:  (Trying to steady himself).  I’ve been fighting at max power without relenting.  It’s incredibly straining.

Derek:  (The next to break the silence).  You’ve been fighting at maximum power this whole time?

Chris:  Yes.  (Coughs a bit, rubbing his chest).  I don’t recommend trying it unless you’re heavily conditioned.

Derek:  (Annoyed).  So you’re gone three days and suddenly you’re heavily conditioned?

Chris:  No, that’s exactly my point.  Hence why it looks like I just got sucker-punched by God.

Kyle:  Hey where were you by the way?

Chris:  (Smiles).  I was at an abandoned church with my dad.

Derek:  Your father’s dead.

Chris:  Um…yes, this is true.

Derek:  But that’s-

-Chris holds up a hand and stops Derek from going any further.

Chris:  Don’t, I don’t get it either.  At least everyone else is alright.  You guys had me worried sick.

Lindsey:  (Finally venturing forward a bit, meekly speaking).  Chris…that’s really you?

Chris:  Yeah Lindz, it’s really me.

He holds his arms open.

Chris:  A welcome back hug, maybe?

-Lindsey’s teary-eyed as she turns her head.

Lindsey:  Why’d you leave us like that?  (Furious as she turns back).  Never do that to me again!

Chris:  (Crushed).  I…I didn’t mean any of this.

-Before the two can argue anymore, Jack cuts in.

Jack:  Well Chris, you told us where you’ve been, obviously preparing for this battle, (shooting Lindsey a sharp look in defense of Chris’ actions), but we saw you die.  All of us witnessed a large number of robots blasting the hell out of you.

Chris:  Yep, this is true.  (Holds up a finger to make a point).  They hit me with enough force to send me into the underground tunnels of the city.  If they’d have shown mercy to begin with instead of showing off, I’d have been dead.

Kyle:  Well, that story works for me.  (Starting to march away).  What say we all leave then, huh?

-Chris looks over, finally catching eyes with Hex-Duo 7.

Chris:  Wait a second…

-Chris clenches his fists, a panicked look appearing on his face.

Chris:  There’s still a Hex-Duo robot!

-Lindsey stands next to Seven, in between Chris and the robot.

Lindsey:  No Chris, it’s not what you think!

Chris:  Huh?

Lindsey:  This is Hex-Duo 7.  It helped us avoid detection from the rest of the robots.  It saved my life.

Chris:  Did it now…?

-Chris walks over to Hex-Duo 7.

Chris:  If that’s true, then I owe you a large bit of thanks.

Hex-Duo 7:  (Nervous around Chris).  I…I’m sorry I couldn’t have been of more help though.  I’m sorry I wasn’t strong enough to help fight Six with you.

Chris:  Don’t worry about it.  (Turns to Jack).  I don’t get it though, why’d this one help you guys out when the other nine tried killing you?

Jack:  (Shrugs).  Don’t know.

Chris:  (Turns to Seven).  Well then?  Why?

Hex-Duo 7:  (Shakes its head).  I don’t know.  Perhaps I’m broken.

Chris:  As long as you’re on our side, then you’re welcome to stay with us.  (Scratches his chin).  But I don’t wanna have to call you Hex-Duo anything, if that’s alright with you.  Hmm…since you’re a broken model of a robot…I propose we call you Glitch.

Hex-Duo 7:  Glitch?  (Smiles).  I like it.

Chris:  Good, ‘cause I’d hate to keep referring to you by a number.

Kyle:  Also, since the robot’s clearly a “he,” I think we should refer to it like it was a guy for ease of description.

Chris:  That sounds fair.  You mind if we call you a guy?

Glitch:  No, that’d be nice, actually.  (Rubs his face, somewhat shy).  So what should we do now?

Chris:  (Thinking again).  Hmm…not sure.  I was about to ask you the same thing.

Jack:  Well, we don’t have to worry about the Hex-Duo robots anymore, so I think we can finally come out of hiding at least.

Glitch:  Not completely.  (Heads turn).  The Regime is still going to be monitoring you all heavily, looking for a chance to catch you off guard with something or other.

Chris:  Glitch, are there other Hex-Duo robots?

Glitch:  Not exactly.  (Depressed look on his face).  I’m the last true Hex-Duo left.

Jack:  Last “true” Hex-Duo?

Glitch:  The ten models of Hex-Duo you’ve seen, myself included, cost a small fortune to manufacture.  And since we were clearly ineffective in killing you all, I doubt that the Regime would dump more money into another series of Hex-Duo models.

Danny:  (Cheers).  Hooray!  No more robots!

Glitch:  Not exactly…

Danny:  (Nervous).  Oh no!  More robots!

Clinton:  If there aren’t any more Hex-Duo robots, and the Regime isn’t about to make any more, then why do we still need to worry about robots?

Glitch:  Charles is a brilliant man.  And the Regime controls him, so there’s no telling what he’ll come up with next.  First it was the Locust Virus, then the Hex-Duo.

Lindsey:  Glitch, what’s coming next?

Glitch:  I don’t know.  We weren’t programmed with that knowledge just in case one of us was to turn against the Regime.  (Smirks).  Funny how that works, huh?

Danny:  So…we head back to the Legion then?

Jack, Derek, and Chris:  No.

The three look back and forth among each other, startled by the actual agreement of the three.

Jack:  We can’t go back to the Legion.

Willy:  Yeah, it was destroyed beyond repair after the robots attacked us.

Jack:  Not just that.  There’s another branch in Brooksboro that’s not quite as big but has undoubtedly become the main headquarters since the attack.

Willy:  So then why don’t we go back?  It’d make sense to meet up with whoever’s left.

Jack:  There’s a spy working for the Regime somewhere high-up in the ranks.

Chris:  (Snaps his fingers).  Oh yeah!  The Commander told me about that a while ago.  He said the guy was like second in command to the Commander.

-Everyone but Chris becomes morose.

Derek:  Great, so that means that this guy’s now in control of the Legion.

Chris:  Huh?  But the Commander…?

Jack:  Is dead.  He died during the attack on the base.

Chris:  (Unsure what to say, fumbling for words).  But…I mean, there’s always a chance he’s still alive, right?  I mean, if I’m still alive, then-

Derek:  (Stops Chris).  No, trust us, the Commander’s dead.  He had a hole blown through his chest and then his neck was snapped.  He’s not coming back in any form we’d want to meet up with again.

Chris:  I’m sorry to hear that…

Jack:  We all were.  At least you didn’t have to see it firsthand, so feel grateful.

Chris:  So if the Legion isn’t an option anymore, what do we do?

Derek:  Personally, I wouldn’t mind overthrowing the leader of the Legion and taking command.  (Looks around to unconvinced glances.  Derek’s annoyed).  But then again that’s just me, isn’t it?

Glitch:  We should still stay as hidden as possible and get out of the city.  It’s too crowded here.

Chris:  I agree.

Derek:  Might I suggest my father’s house?  (Before anyone can nay-say).  Yeah I figured not.

Chris:  I agree with Derek.  Let’s head to his dad’s house.

Derek:  (Surprised that Chris agrees).  What?  Why?

Kyle:  If I may speak for everyone here, I’m pretty sure that we’re not in much danger from any crazy powerful foes.  I mean, come on.  (Gestures towards Chris).  The guy just proved he’s in a league of his own.

Chris:  I’m not…(Ashamed).  I didn’t ask for this though.

Derek:  (Angry).  Of course you didn’t.  (Starts walking).  But you got it anyhow, don’t you?

-Jack manages to get to his feet, shakily.

Jack:  Yeah, he does.  Off to Derek’s then.

-Jack grabs Glitch’s arm.

Jack:  Hey, gimmie a hand, will ya?  My legs aren’t working too good just yet.

Glitch:  Sure.

-Glitch throws Jack’s arm over his shoulder and helps him walk with Lindsey on the other side of Jack.

-Everyone turns away from Chris, a little nervous at his presence, all somewhat happy to be moving away from the area.

Chris:  Well then…(Looks up at the sky).

Chris:  Dad, you never told me how hard being the enforcer would be…

-Chris walks on after the others.

-As they all walk way into the distance, we get a pan-shot down to a pile of rubble.

-Hex-Duo 6’s red eye flickers slightly in the pile of wreckage before flickering out completely.

To Be Continued…

What’s next in store for the group?  You’ll have to wait until next time to find out!
